The Department of Education intends to make a sole source award to Mathematica Policy Research, Inc. by extending the contract for an additional 12 months for the Impact Evaluation of Teacher Preparation Models. Interested vendors can call Lenox Coles @ 202-245-6176 or email Lenox.Coles@ed.gov Please submit your proposals electronically by 12 pm on Thursday, January 20, 2005. The purpose is to evaluate the impact of different methods of teacher preparation on teacher practices and student achievement. The new work under this action is as follows: 1) Increase the number of schools (from 60 to 80) and sampled teachers from (120 to 180). 2) Collect data from two teacher cohorts (one group of teachers from the 2004-05 school year and another from the 2005-06 school year) for a total sample of 180 teachers. The two cohorts will necessitate an additional year to obtain one-year follow-up information from each of the two cohorts; 3) Increase the data collection effort to include a teacher verbal ability measure (such as a SAT or ACT test score) and classroom observations of the teachers in the study; and 4) Investigate theoretical assumptions underlying relevant power calculations and nonexperimental ways to enhance power.
