- Announcement Army Aerial and Joint Services VTOL Rotorcraft Science & Technology Strategic Planning Workshop U.S. Government/Industry/Academic 1-3 February 2005 The United States Army Aviation and Missile Research, Development and Engineering Center (AMRDEC) is holding a workshop in support of Aviation Science and Technology Strategic Planning for Joint Services VTOL Rotorcraft and Army Aerial Systems. The worksho p will be held in Williamsburg, VA from 1-3 February 2005. This planning activity is being led by the AMRDEC and includes Joint Service and Multi-agency participation. The AMRDEC Associate Director for Aviation Technology has established an Integrated Pr oduct Team (IPT) to develop an Aviation Science and Technology (S&T) Strategic Plan which addresses both Army Aerial systems and Joint Service VTOL Rotorcraft S&T needs. The purpose of this workshop is to review and refine relevant technology goals, objec tives and milestones as part of the effort to finalize a draft Aviation S&T Strategic Plan The purpose of this announcement is to solicit interest in participation in this workshop by the U.S. Government, industry and academic communities. The format for the workshop will include a half day plenary session, followed by a day and a half of funct ional working group meetings to refine technology goals, objectives and milestones in several Technology Areas under five Focus Areas as follows: Platform Structure Force & Moment Generators Vehicle Mgt & Control Subsystems Mission Systems Engagement and Effects Survivability Teaming, Autonomy & Info Mgmt Human Sys Interface Avionics/Networking Power Engines & Motors Other Power Sources Drives & Power Transmission Operations Support & Sustainment Sustainment Flight Ops Enablers Systems Analysis and Concepts Aerial Systems Concept Evaluation Systems Effectiveness in JIM In addition, there will be a workgroup (by invitation only) to address strategic issues and business practice issues. The workshop is restricted to U.S. entities to avoid any potential export control issues that might surface during discussions. While classified information will not be discussed, participants must be U.S. citizens. The Workshop is being sponsored by the Aviation and Missile Research, Development, and Engineering Center and administered by the Aviation Applied Technology Directorate and the Hampton Roads Chapter of the American Helicopter Society. Attendance at the workshop will be limited to approximately 200 individuals. There will be a workshop fee of $250 to cover the cost of the workshop conference facilities, luncheons, socials, refreshments and administration. Invitations to attend and participate will be e xtended on or about 5 January 2005. The number of participants invited from any single entity will be a function of the degree of interest expressed in response to this announcement. To receive an invitation to this workshop interested U.S. companies and academic institutions are requested to send a statement of interest to Aviation Applied Technology Directorate as explained below. This statement of interest should include name, tit le, mailing address, contact information including telephone; fax numbers; email; and postal addresses and the technology area workgroup in which you desire to participate. The Government reserves the right to limit attendance and to decide among all resp onding interested parties those who provide the most advantageous mix of expertise.
