- FISC Norfolk Naval Shipyard is seeking expressions of interest to determine if there are an adequate number of responsible and interested sources who can meet and/or exceed the Government's nominal salient characteristic requirements for an Electric Heat Treating Box Furnace. The information gathered from this notice shall be used for pre-planning purposes only and does not obligate the Government to issue an official requirement for the subject equipment. The Government will not present payment for any information provided in response to this notice, nor will the Government return any data submitted. EQUIPMENT SPECIFICATIONS : 1) Electric Heat Treating Box Furnace, 6 ft chamber; 2)Intended use: Heat treating of various size, weight and metal type work pieces; 3) Capacity size - 48 inches x 48 inches x 72 inches work chamber, 800 deg F to 2200 deg F temperature range, 10% accuracy, 2000 lbs load; 4) Services - electrical and shop air utility connection; 5)Working Level - 30 inches above finished floor; 6)Construction - Dimension 12 ft L x 8 ft w x 11' H, Minimum Weight - 25,000 lbs, High-temperature, ceramic-fiber/brick-lined insulation, Shell - heavy gauge reinforced steel, Door - air operated, counter-weighted, vertical lift, foot treadle activated, Temperature controls - computerized, digital readout, 3-zone, NEMA electrical enclosures, Graphing - roll paper plotter for fun time/temperature recording , Max. work piece load : 2000 lbs, Electrical - 480 volts AC, 3-phase, 60 cycles. SAFETY, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENTAL SPECIFICATIONS: 1) Furnace lining - Furnace side walls, rear walls, and the roof will be lined with compressed 9 inch thick edge grain high purity ceramic-fiber blanket. The floor, jambs and lintel will be lined with insulating castables or bricks; 2) Covers/Guards - Covers, guards or other safety devises shall be provided for all parts of the equipment that present safety hazards. The devices shall prevent unintentional contact with the guarded part. All parts, components, mechanisms and assemblies furnished on the unit shall comply with OSHA Standard 29 CFR 1910. The design and manufacture of the unit shall be in accordance with ANSI safety standards; 3) Audible noise levels emitted by the furnace shall not exceed 84 dB at the operator's work position, nor any other point at a distance of 3 ft from the equipment; 4) PCB - use of polychlorinated biphenyl on or in the equipment is prohibited; 5) Mercury- Use of Mercury compounds during manufacture and in the equipment is prohibited; 6) Asbestos - Use of asbestos or asbestos materials on or in the equipment is prohibited; 7) Electrical - Electrical components including disconnects, 115 volt control circuits, starters, relays, switches, wiring, grounding, electrical connections, solid-state components shall conform to NEMA, ANSI, and NFPA standards for the intended operation; 8) Caution-Warning plates made of corrosion resistant material shall be securely attached to the equipment and must clearly show all necessary safety precautions; 9) Identification plates made of corrosion resistant material shall be securely attached to the equipment and must clearly show nomenclature, manufacturer, model number, serial number, electrical utilities, other utilities, contract number and date of manufacturer; 10) Environmental Protection - the equipment shall not emit materials hazardous to the ecological system, as prescribed by federal, state and local statutes in effect at date of installation. Contractors are being requested to submit detailed equipment specification/performance data accompanied by installation drawings and/or footprints. Responses to this notice are due by 4:00 PM, Wednesday, January 12, 2005.
