Description
The National Marine Fisheries Service, Northwest Fisheries Science Center (NWFSC) has a requirement for a contractor to provide two moored acoustic devices capable of detecting and recording all killer whale and other marine mammal vocalizations and analyze all collected data. Deployment of devices will be in the coastal waters of Washington from February 2005 to June 2005. Units must be capable of recording and storing all data collected. Recorders must be capable of recording ambient and anthropogenic noise sufficient to characterize noise levels in area and must have bandwidth up to 20 kHz that can be deployed in water depths of approximately 40-100m. Contractor is required to test and deploy one unit in Haro Strait prior to deployment in coastal waters for duration sufficient to demonstrate ability of unit to provide suitable quality recording for identification of individual whale pods. Contractor must provide appropriate mooring/release system for a shallow water mooring in order to ensure successful deployment and recovery of the devices. NWFSC will provide ship support suitable for deployment and recovery of the instruments and will determine mooring locations. Contractor shall analyze data from recovered acoustic recording devices and provide report to NWFSC that will include an assessment of modifications necessary to improve marine mammal detection and other noise. All responsible, responsive offers will be considered. To receive a bid package, send your request by fax at (206) 526-6025, no later than close of business Dec 29, 2004. This is a small purchase action with the estimated value of less than $100,000.00.
