Description
The Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory has developed a novel plasma powder that produces ammonia when reacted with water at room temperatures. Production of ammonia from the powder stops immediately when the water is cut off. Hydrolysis of the powders to produce ammonia also liberates a significant amount of heat. The spent powder could be converted back to the starting material by a plasma treatment process. The novel powder is stable, easily transportable and is not hazardous. The powder is ideal for ammonia or hydrogen (by decomposition of the ammonia) production on demand at end-user locations. This material is a safe alternative to transporting hazardous anhydrous ammonia or urea across the nation. The technology has not been fully developed. Particularly, the plasma re-conversion process for the spent material needs to be developed. The INEEL is soliciting funding from qualified companies to support a development program to validate and test the proprietary process. The development period for this project is expected to last 24-36 months. At the conclusion of the development project, the firm may seek up to an exclusive field of use license for intellectual property related to the project. This solicitation of interest will close on February 28, 2004. Points of Contact related to this solicitation: Technical/ Peter Kong/ pck@inel.gov; Business/ David R.
