Description
The Joint Biological Agent Identification and Diagnostic System (JBAIDS) team, Medical Identification and Treatment Systems (MITS) Program Office, under the Chemical Biological Medical Systems Project Office in Frederick MD, is conducting a study reg arding available nucleic acid purification products able to purify deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and/or ribonucleic acid(RNA) from various biological and environmental sample types. These sample types include, but are not limited to: buffer, blood, powders , surface swabs, nasal swabs, soil, stool, food substances (meat, seafood, vegetable, dairy), sputum, gastric aspirate/lavage, lymph node aspirate/biopsy, pus, , culture medium, and like materials. Responses to this inquiry should be limited to commercial, off-the-shelf (COTS), non-developmental items (NDI) available for immediate purchase and delivery. Products may be for manual or automated DNA and RNA purification. JBAIDS constitutes the Department of Defenses (DoDs) first effort to develop and field a common medical test equipment platform among all the military Services that will both identify biological agents and pathogens of operational concern and be used as a diagnostic tool by medical professionals to treat patients. System clearance by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is currently underway. The JBAIDS team is looking for ways to simplify the sample preparation process, thus reducing the DNA/RNA sample preparation support equipment footprint. The extracted DNA/RNA samples will be plac ed in capillary tubes for analysis in the JBAIDS polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analyzer. The JBAIDS product team is looking for COTS sample preparation products that can be purchased on the commercial market to extract DNA/RNA from one or more of the sa mple matrices of interest. Interested contractors are requested to forward product information on their proposed sample extraction kit products to following address: CBMS-MITS, JBAIDS Product Team, Attn: Ms Donna Boston, 64 Thomas Johnson Drive, Frederic k MD, 21702. Responses are requested by 18 January 2005. Technical questions regarding the study objectives should be sent via e-mail to Dr. Jim Karaszkiewicz at the above address and/or e-mail at James.karaszkiewicz@Det.Amedd.Army.mil.
