Cherry Ave, Tucson, AZ 85719 The Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy, Inc. (AURA), acting as operator of the Gemini Observatory, is seeking a qualified vendor to provide (lease) an end-to-end computer network circuit suitable for IP connections to the US national high-performance research networks (Internet2). This circuit will be between AURA's astronomy facilities in La Serena, Chile, and the Florida International University?s AMPATH Point of Presence (POP) in the NAP of the Americas, Miami, Florida. The bandwidth will depend on available funding, which is not known at this time, but is expected to be sufficient to permit at least 16 Mbps, and hopefully 45 Mbps. The full requirements for this procurement, and instructions for submitting a proposal, will be given in a Request for Proposal to be released in the near future. Firms that are interested in receiving this Request for Proposal should email a letter of interest to Andrew Flach at aflach@gemini.edu by no later than Thursday 6 January 2005. This letter of interest should reference RFP No. N242039 in the subject line and in the body of the email give the name, address, email address, phone number, and fax number of a contact person at your firm. The Gemini Observatory is an international collaboration to operate two 8 meter telescopes, one located on Mauna Kea in Hawaii, the other located on Cerro Pachon in Chile. The Gemini partners include the USA, United Kingdom, Canada, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, and Australia. The Gemini Observatory is operated by AURA under contract with the National Science Foundation.
