- Description
- Correctional Physician Fellowship Program This announcement is posted as a Request for Information (RFI) only. The Bureau of Prisons is conducting Market Research that may result in a future solicitation. This RFI is issued to determine whether there are qualified sources and interest, as well as, provide the opportunity for comment concerning the initiative. The Federal Bureau of Prisons is seeking information about the possible establishment of a correctional fellowship training program for doctors of medicine or doctors of osteopathy who are licensed physicians (or the Federal Bureau of Prisons' participation in an existing program). The fellowship program may include 6 months of clinical work at the Federal Medical Center at Butner, North Carolina, and could include the possibility of clinical rotations at other Bureau of Prisons facilities. The intent of this program would be to introduce physicians to the field of correctional medicine through direct patient care activities. The Federal Bureau of Prisons is issuing this Request for Information to conduct market research to determine if there is any interest in this initiative, and to better understand how this initiative could be integrated into existing physician training programs. Please consider the following questions in responding to this market research inquiry: Are physicians interested in this type of training? What types of specific patient care activities would be of interest to licensed doctors of osteopathy or doctors of medicine who have completed internships or residencies? What types of primary care or subspecialty care training programs would be interested in incorporating clinical rotations in the correctional setting? How could a correctional fellowship program for physicians be integrated into existing health care-related degree programs, including masters-level programs such as a Masters Degree in Public Health? What logistical, liability, or other obstacles might make such a program difficult to implement? What type of resources would the Bureau of Prisons need to provide for a correctional fellowship program? Responses and questions may be addressed to Donald G. Sinsel, Contracting Officer, Federal Bureau of Prisons, National Acquisitions Section, 320 First Street, NW, Washington, DC 20534. Telephone: (202) 616-6150. Facsimile: (202) 307-1146.
