Description
Force Protection Equipment Demonstration V will be conducted at Quantico Marine Corps Base, Virginia from 26 to 28 April 2005. The event is sponsored by The Department of Defense (DoD) through the DoD Physical Security Equipment Action Group (DoD PS EAG), and co-sponsored by the Joint Staffs Directorate of Operations for Combating Terrorism, the Department of Energy, the Technical Support Working Group (TSWG), and the National Institute of Justice (NIJ). FPED's genesis was the 25 June 1996 Khobar To wers bombing and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff's desire to find commercial off-the-shelf materiel solutions to force protection needs. The purpose of the demonstration is to show leaders and decision-makers what is available to help meet their force protection needs. The inaugural demonstration in 1997 demonstrated and displayed force protection equipment from 184 vendors and was primarily intended for the Department of Defense (DoD). FPED V will bring more than 500 vendors and organizations w ith over 2,500 items of force protection equipment to be viewed by attendees from DoD, federal departments and agencies, state and local law enforcement and other first responders, corrections agencies and foreign attendees. There are twenty categories of equipment that include blast and ballistics mitigation, night vision and optics, barriers, individual protective equipment, non-lethal weaponry, chemical/biological detection, protection and mitigtion, explosive detection and cargo inspection devices, bio metrics, and others. Range demonstrations are conducted to demonstrate the blast, ballistics and non-lethal products. A night vision demonstration will be conducted the nights of 26 and 27 April. Attendee on-line registration is currently available by going to www.fped5.org and clicking the Registration button located under FPED V Attendees. With over 500 vendors and organizations, 2,500 equipment items, range demonstrations, and a night vision demonstration, a 2-day visit is strongly recommended. Att endees desiring to receive their show badge prior to the demonstration should register prior to 29 March 2005. The points of contact for FPED V are Mr. Jim Suarez or Mr. Ken Shaw. They may be reached at (703) 452-3756 or (703) 452-3712 respectively.
