- Description
- SSC Charleston is intending to award a sole source, firm fixed price type contract, to INTELSAT MTC LLC, Bethesda, MD, utilizing commercial acquisition procedures under FAR Part 12. This contract is to provide the continued use of satellite communication services between CONUS and the South Pole MARISAT GOES Terminal (SPMGT) at the Scott-Amundsen Station, South Pole, Antarctica, commencing in FY 05. To meet these requirements, the contractor shall provide satellite Space Segment services consisting of a satellite in a geosynchronous and inclined orbit (>11.5 degrees) with sufficient transponder resources required. The satellite must also be visible to an Earth Station in the continental United States. INTELSAT's MARISAT-F2 satellite meets the particular requirements necessary for communications with the South Pole. The MARISAT satellite is in an inclined and geosynchronous orbit, which supports approximately six hours per day of connectivity with the South Pole. The data rates are dependent upon the technical parameters of both earth stations and inter-system interference constraints, but are estimated to be at least 1.544 Mbps in both directions and potentially as high as 2.4 Mbps toward the South Pole and 5 Mbps from the South Pole. INTELSAT, as the owner/operator of the MARISAT F-2 satellite, is the only known source that can provide the necessary satellite Space Segment and Teleport services to meet mission requirements. A solicitation will not be made available as a result of this announcement. Parties interested in subcontracting opportunities are directed to contact INTELSAT. Questions may be directed to Ms. Joanne Banks at (843) 218-5953. SEE NOTE #2
