Description

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) seeks the following modifications to a NIST owned single-mode, fiber-laser system that produces approximately 1 W of narrowband radiation at 1.126 microns. Specifically, NIST would like to add a preamplifier stage directly after the master laser that will boost the master laser power from 15 milliwatts to 40 milliwatts. NIST requires the power to be sent through an acoustical-optical modulator (AOM) prior to the amplifier stage. This will allow NIST to frequency- and intensity-stabilize the fiber laser in the infrared prior to doubling its frequency in a stabilized cavity. Additionally, NIST seeks to have a port by which to extract 5 milliwatts of the infrared beam subsequent to the AOM but prior to the amplifier to use for diagnostics and the realization of the mercury, single-ion optical clock. Finally, NIST wants a smaller noise pedestal, which requires changing out the present multi-mode pump laser for a single mode laser. The new, single-mode pump source will help to reduce the noise pedestal from about 100 kHz to about 30 kHz or less. NIST Proposes to negotiate on a sole source basis with Koheras A/S, Blokken 84, 3460 Birkrod, Denmark a contract under the authority of 41 U.S.C. 253(c)(1) for these modifications.***This procurement is being conducted per FAR Part 13, Simplified Acquisition Procedures (Under $100,000).
