- Description
- The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), intends to negotiate on a sole source basis, under authority of FAR 13.106-1(b) (1), from Coherent Inc. of Santa Clara, CA, for the purchase of its Pulse Picker Model 9200. A stand alone accessory for the Mira (picoseconds and femtosecond) mode locked Titanium Sapphire (Ti:S) laser. NIST Surface and Microanalysis Science Division will use the Pulse Picker in an existing computer controlled application. Sole source determination is based on the need for pin-to-pin compatibility with the existing system where the software and hardware have already been developed and the system elements are tuned/matched. Keeping the elements of this system matched or tuned to each other is critical to maintaining a high level of frequency agility. Any deviation from compatible components will result in issues such as reduced level of performance, to possible total failure of the laser platform. Delivery shall be FOB Destination. The associated North American Industrial Classification System (NAICS) Code for this procurement is 334516 with a business size standard of 500 employees. No solicitation package will be issued. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotations, however, responses received by 10 February 2005, will be considered by the Government. A determination by the Government not to compete the proposed acquisition based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.
