Description
This synopsis is being posted to both the Federal Business Opportunities (FBO) page located at http://www.eps.gov and the Navy Electronic Commerce on Line (NECO) site located at http://www.neco.navy.mil. While it is understood that FBO is the single point of entry for posting of synopsis and solicitations to the internet, NECO is the alternative in case FBO is unavailable. Please feel free to use either site to access information posted by the Navy Sea Systems Command. The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division is searching for available sources to fabricate thick samples of a material consisting of thin alternate layers of two different metals or a metal and a metal oxide. A sample thickness of 1 inch is desired consisting of individual layers of 5 microns or less. The layers are required to be bonded to some minimum strength so that the sample will hold together under normal handling. It is desired that the sample be strong enough so that the material ! would not delaminate upon gun launch. The combination of materials of interest are zirconium and zinc, zirconium and manganese oxide, aluminum and iron, and titanium and copper oxide. The layers could be of any geometry, spherical, cylindrical, or arranged in a flat sheet. It is desired that the layers consist of only the above mentioned materials. However, it may be satisfactory to allow a thin layer of adhesive between layers. Capability Statements are limited to five (5) pages and shall be submitted either via email to XDS11@nswc.navy.mil or in writing to: Contracting Officer, Attn: XDS116/Bldg 183/Room 102, NAVSURFWARCEN Dahlgren Division, 17320 Dahlgren Road, Dahlgren, VA 22448-5100. Responses shall be submitted by 15 February 2005 and identify number N00178-05-Q-1906. CONTRACTORS ARE REMINDED THAT THIS IS A SOURCES SOUGHT SYNOPSIS ONLY. THIS SYNOPSIS SHOULD NOT BE CONSTRUED AS A COMMITMENT OR AUTHORIZATION TO INCUR COSTS IN ANTICIPATION OF A RESULTANT CONTRA! CT.
