Description
This DOE Tri-Lab community (Sandia National Laboratories, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, and Los Alamos National Laboratory) deployed a high bandwidth Wide Area Network (DisCom WAN) about five years ago to implement a distance computing strategy. This strategy allowed users at any one of the three laboratories to utilize ASC (Advanced Simulation and Computing) resources at the other sites in a manner similar to that provided for local users. The current contract providing the 2.5 Gbps (Gigabits per second) interconnect between SNL, NM and LLNL, CA is due to expire on January 31, 2006. That capability must be replaced in order to continue support for the ASC distance computing strategy. Many technological advances and changes have taken place since the original bandwidth contract was placed. In order to replace the existing service and maintain our network performance, we must understand the technological and market changes that have taken place as well as the deployment strategies of the telecommunication carriers, or any organization that aspires to provide such capabilities. We are soliciting input from industry for the technical requirements, availability, schedule, and the cost of a 2.5 Gbps and higher, production WAN link from SNL to LLNL. It must be implemented by January 31, 2006 with a lifetime of at least three years. Therefore, we strongly encourage interested providers to share their near- and long-term strategy for long distance, bandwidth services of 2.5 Gbps and above. The full Request for Information (RFI) document is available on request in .doc (Microsoft Word) format. NOTE: THIS NOTICE WAS NOT POSTED TO WWW.FEDBIZOPPS.GOV ON THE DATE INDICATED IN THE NOTICE ITSELF (14-FEB-2005); HOWEVER, IT DID APPEAR IN THE FEDBIZOPPS FTP FEED ON THIS DATE.
