- Description
- The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Center for Neutron Research (NCNR), has a requirement for 20 pure polycrystalline beryllium blocks that will be used to reject unwanted high energy neutrons from the Multi Axis Crystal Spectrometer (MACS) detection system. The MACS is a third generation cold neutron spectrometer that is to be installed on the NG0 beam line of the NBSR neutron source. The instrument will feature one of the most intense monochromatic cold neutron beams world wide and an innovative multi-channel monochromatic detection system. These features will make this instrument a unique facility for probing nano-scale dynamics in solids. This acquisition shall result in a total of 20 beryllium blocks with dimensions, purity, and physical characteristics specified to achieve the desired performance as a neutron filter. Twenty truncated right rectangular pyramids of identical dimensions are required to filter neutrons scattered from the sample. The materials requirements shall be identical for all beryllium blocks. In addition, there shall be a requirement of uniformity of the chemical composition and grain size distribution for the twenty blocks. This requirement is being procured using Simplified Acquisition Procedures under full & open competition. The NAICS code for this requirement is 334516 with a small business size standard of 500 employees. The competitive Request for Quotation (RFQ), specifications, attachments, subsequent RFQ amendments, and all questions and answers related to this procurement shall be made available via the Internet at HTTP://WWW.FEDBIZOPPS.GOV under RFQ number SB1341-05-Q-0332. The RFQ is anticipated for release to the vendor community on or about February 24, 2005, and will only be available via the Internet at the above web site. Potential offerors are responsible for accessing the web site. Interested parties must respond to the RFQ in order to be considered for award of any resultant contract. No written solicitation document is available, telephone requests shall not be honored, and no bidders list shall be maintained. Potential offerors are requested to direct all questions via e-mail to Carol.Wood@NIST.Gov.
