Description
The Human Engineering Research Laboratories at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System (VAPHS) are expanding their product testing and prototype facilities to encompass prosthetic limb testing and manufacturing. VAPHS intends to negotiate on a sole source basis with MTS Systems Corporation, 3645 Perrysville Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15214 to purchase a customizable load and kinematic testing platform that can be adjusted easily for different types of prosthesis (below/above elbow, below/above knee) and can be expandable to incorporate additional actuators. The MTS Biomechanics Toolkit is a highly customizable platform because it is not based on a stndard load-frame setup, but rather a bolt-down table where the actuators and load cells can be moved and additional actuators added for the multiple degrees of freedom that we will require for testing in the future. Our initial phase requirements for the device are: 1) Complete hydraulic pumping system and integrated computer-control system expandable to accommodate at least 3 actuators and 3 load measuring devices. 2) One 1DOF actuator (tension/compression) w/>3000lbf load capacity, and > 9" inch stroke. 3) One uniaxial load cell (with load limits to accommodate above actuator). 4) A load-frame chassis/table to allow for multiple-positioning of several actuators to accommodate testing (fatigue, and load-to-failure) of devices spanning from 8" to 42" in length, and approximately 6" in diameter. 5) Power requirements: 120V, 220V 1-phase OR 206 or 230 volts 3-phase power. If your firm has a comparable toolkit which you would like us to consider, please submit manufacturer's literature and documentation that the equipment meets our requirements to Linda.Glancy@med.va.gov or to Linda Glancy (04A-H), VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System, 7180 Highland Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15206, NLT 2/23/05. Technical questions can be directed to Jon Pearlman, M.Sc., at (412) 365-4850 or jlp46@pitt.edu. This is not a request for quotations or proposals. The VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System will make a determination whether to issue a competitive solictation based on any responses received.
