- Description
- The US Army TACOM-ARDEC has a requirement for Plasma Engineering and Sputter deposition to improve bore coating adhesion. The objective of the project is to test, evaluate, and apply advanced industrial surface plasma clean, nitriding, and enhanced sputter deposition processes to improve wear and erosion life of bore coatings. Improved surface conditions and ion enhanced sputter deposition processes are known to produce dense and adherent bore coatings. Plasma enhanced bore coatings for large caliber guns shall be tested using laser heating and vented combustor at ARDEC-Ben?t Labs, simulating high temperature and pressure, and aggressive chemical environment during firing operation. Contractor shall apply enhanced plasma cleaning, high intensity plasma ion nitriding, plasma enhanced magnetron sputter deposition technology, and advanced characterization techniques for deposition of thick, dense, and adherent bore coatings for large caliber gun bore coating applications. The funds are not currently available for this procurement. No award will be made until funds are available. This requirement will be awarded on a sole source basis to Southwest Research Institute, San Antonio, Texas. See Numbered Note 22.
