Description
This project is located entirely within Coos County on the southern coast of Oregon. Charleston Channel begins in deep water at approximately RM 2 on the main Coos Bay channel and is 17 feet deep and 150 wide for a distance of 3,200 feet; and then is 16 feet deep to the state highway bridge, a distance of 3,600 feet. Charleston Channel includes a 400 foot long access channel toward the mooring basin, which is maintained by local interest and a turning basin 900 feet long by 180 feet wide; both 16 fee t deep. The access channel begins about RM 0+37 and the turning basin extends upstream on the west side. The work is at RM 0+37 to 0+40. A total of 30,000 cubic yards of material is available in the form of a sand spit. Disposal site will be in-water, A rea G, located about 1.2 nautical miles from the Charleston Channel work area. This disposal site is situated on the south side of the Coos Bay Entrance near RM 1. The material consists of clean sand. Target depth is 17 + 1 MLLW. There is 25,227 cubic yards on the latest surveys at 18 MLLW. An option to the project may include Dredging and Placement of Materials of an additional 50 ft. work area west of the current project work area entitled Charleston Channel Dredging, area indicated on drawing. I t is estimated that a total of less than 1,000 cubic yards of material is available in this work area. Target depth would be 14 + 1 MLLW for this work area. A Site Safety and Health Officer, SSHO, shall be provided for all new contracts with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Portland District. For this project the person that will act as the SSHO is required to have a minimum of 3 years safety work with simil ar projects and a 30 Hour OSHA construction safety class, or equivalent, taken within the last 3 years. The SSHO may have other duties for this work that include being the Contractor on-site Project Manager and/or the on-site CQC Manager or other responsi ble individual.
