- Description
- The office of NOAA, National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), Alaska Fisheries Service Center (AFSC), Auke Bay Laboratory (ABL) located in Juneau, has a requirement for services to conduct research to describe deep-sea habitat in the central Aleutian Islands to assess the effects of fishing activities on that habitat. The objective of this contract is to enumerate coral and associated fish and vertebrates on strip transects along the seafloor. Animal counts will be made from time-coded video footage using software and techniques provided by the government. Records of substrate type and other seafloor characteristics will also be collected from video footage. Individual responding to this notice must have knowledge of fish and invertebrate species present in the Aleutian Islands region and general coral taxonomy, must have experience in identifying and enumerating fish and invertebrates remotely via video or still photographs and must have experience with database software such as Excel and Access. All work will be performed at the government site at Juneau, Alaska. It is anticipated that work will be made to a local source in Juneau, Alaska or local commuting area due to the nature of work under proposed contract. Period of performance of contract is one year.
