The National Institute of Occupational Health (NIOH) is an institute of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) of the Government of India (GOI) with responsibility to address environmental and occupational issues including conduct of epidemiologic and toxicologic studies, develop tools for early evaluation of health impairment and design of appropriate preventive interventions for work places and the general environment. NIOH is the primary Indian Government Institute dealing with occupational and environmental health issues and has been appointed as the lead agency for this project by the GOI. The Indian Government requires direct involvement of the appropriate GOI agency for implementation of a project of this type. Public health intervention projects of this type cannot legally be done without the cooperation, concurrence and approval of the appropriate institute of the Government of India. Only Drs.
