Description
The Department of State's National Foreign Affairs Training Center, Foreign Service Institute (FSI) provides training and professional development to personnel of the Department of State and the Foreign Service community. The mission of the Area Studies Division of the School of Professional and Area Studies (SPAS) at the Foreign Service Institute (FSI) is to provide members of the foreign affairs community with the essential knowledge of the country or region in which they work in order that they may advance the foreign policy objectives of the United States of America. The Public Diplomacy Division of SPAS requires a contractor (an A.L.A.-accredited library school) to develop and present a four-day professional on-site workshop. The workshop is for Locally Employed Staff (LES)/ Foreign Service National Employees (FSNs) of Information Resource Centers (IRCs) and libraries in U.S. Embassies and Consulates. IRCs, as part of Public Diplomacy programs in US embassies and consulates, serve as primary points of contact for the highest level of foreign audiences in government service, the media, academic institutions, NGOs and professional organizations, among others. IRC LES/FSN staff, all of whom are fluent in English, provide pro-active responsive service to these important members of foreign local communities about all aspects of US society, government, foreign policy, and culture. ALL QUESTIONS MUST BE SUBMITTED IN WRITING TO salterb@state.gov BY COB 03/11/2005.
