Description

Subject: High Energy Laser (HEL) technologies POC: Dr. John Zavada, Engineering Sciences Division (919) 549-4238. The U.S. Army Research Office (ARO) announces the Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) to solicit multi-disciplinary research initiative proposals from U. S. Universities and U. S. Universities and industry teams to conduct basic research in specific areas of H igh Energy Laser (HEL) technologies. The primary goal of this research is to develop a basic understanding of the physical processes involved in developing High Power Fiber Laser Arrays and High Power Optically Pumped Atomic and Molecular Gas Lasers for m ilitary applications. This announcement is for Universities and Universities led teams. Industrial partners are allowed but the funding to be provided to industry partners shall not exceed fifty percent of the total cost of the proposed effort. No propo sals will be accepted unless submitted directly by academia. This announcement is sponsored by the High Energy Laser Joint Technology Office (HEL-JTO). This BAA is being executed by the Army Research Office (ARO) on behalf of the HEL-JTO. Potential of ferors are advised to read this announcement carefully. It explains the agencies research needs upon which the topic is based and the terms and conditions of the competition. The BAA contains additional information on the program and instructions for pro posal preparation and submission. Proposals must be received at the ARO no later than 4:00p.m. ESDT, April 22 , 2005. The BAA is available on the ARO Home Page at http://www.aro.army.mil.
