- The DOD Executive Agency for Low-Level Radioactive Waste and the DOE Office of Environmental Management will hold the First Annual DOD/DOE Waste Generators Conference at the Marriott Pavilion in St. Louis, MO, May 24-27, 2005. The objective of the me eting is to give you the opportunity to meet and hear from management personnel responsible for the Department of Defense (DOD) Radioactive Waste Disposal Program and Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Environmental Management (EM), and to give you curre nt information on a variety of radioactive waste issues.?? The agenda will focus on the changes affecting current and new commercial and federal disposal site availability, disposal costs, new technologies for waste management, and other national issues.?? Attendees will include representatives of the Department of Defense, the Department of Energy, Army, Navy, Defense Logistics Agency, U.S. Corps of Engineers, Air Force, state governments, regulators, low-level waste compacts, the Low-Level Waste Forum, and the low-level waste contractors. We are also soliciting technical presentations from the industry. Technical presentations must be applicable to DOD generated waste streams and processing requirements, and will be selected on a first come basis - these agenda time slots are extremely limited and require an abstract NLT 1 April, 2004. Normally the agenda slots will be filled before the deadline.? In addition, the Department of Energy (DOE) will be soliciting participation from DOE Complex-wide waste generators on Orphan Wastes and from industry service providers in the areas of low-level and mixed waste management, treatment, and disposal options.?? These firms should have capabilities that fulfill needs appli cable to DOE generated waste streams and processing requirements. Parties interested in making a capabilities presentation should contact Mr. Michael Torbert, (301) 903-7109, email: Michael.Torbert@em.doe.gov. You will have an excellent opportunity to learn more and participate in discussions about national radioactive waste issues; the DOD and DOE mixed and low-level radioactive waste program's procedures, capabilities and requirements; and meet with and address issues with state, compact and federal regulators.? You will also have the opportunity to hear about the future needs of numerous DOE sites and commercial waste management and disposition efforts for the DOE.
