Description
The United States Army is interested in procuring a flexible, continuous processor for energetic materials (propellants, explosives, and pyrotechnics) that has the following mandatory features/capabilities: - 40mm co-rotating/counter-rotating, fully intermeshing twin-screw processor/ extruder - Less than 40mm co-rotating/counter-rotating, non intermeshing twin-screw processor/extruder - Convertible to a continuous single-screw processor/extruder - Safety features such as rapid opening of the barrel to release pressure, and completely remote operation (note that the final design drawings must be submitted to RDECOM-ARDEC for review and approval prior to parts fabrication) - Intrinsically safe (power supplies, controls, instrumentation) - Ability to install, debug and proveout the machine prior to Government acceptance (includes integration of existing auxiliary equipment) - Ability to vary the total operational length of the extruder barrel from a 5:1 to 25:1 Length/Diameter - A minimum of 5 solids and 5 liquid feed ports - Ability to sustain a minimum die pressure of 10,000 lb/in2 - Ability to measure temperature and pressure both along the barrel and at the die exit - Ability to measure torque directly from the screw shaft - Ability to heat/cool the five barrel zones and die (0 - 350 F) - User friendly interface with process control and logic In addition the followin features are desirable: - On-line rheological characterization of the product - Mathematical model/computer simulation of the continuous processor The US Army is interested in having a completely operational system in place at RDECOM-ARDEC, Picatinny, NJ no later than 31 March 2006. Request that you interest in this effort be transmitted to the RDECOM-ARDEC Acquisition Center within 45 calendar days from issuance of this request.
