- The Smithsonian Institution is seeking proposals to furnish all supervision, labor, materials and equipment needed to disassemble, transport, refurbish/repaint, and install a Boeing 747 Nose Cone (currently located in Maxton, North Carolina) in Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum (“NASM”), Washington, DC. The Scope of Work includes but is not limited to: removing the nose cone from the body of the plane at its present location at Charlotte Aircraft, Maxton, North Carolina; constructing a support frame for exhibition; disassembling all parts; wrapping the parts for transportation; painting of the nose cone and all support parts; transporting all elements to NASM; unloading the parts from the transport vehicles; moving all parts and reassembling the nose cone at the exhibition position and touch-up painting at the exhibition site. The Solicitation will include options to perform the entire Scope of Work, as well as options for the painting and touch-up only and the disassembly/transportation/exhibit fabrication/reassembly only. Therefore, more than one contract may be awarded if such awards are in the best interest of the Smithsonian. All firms interested in submitting a proposal in response to Solicitation No. F0536SOL0013 need copies of the solicitation documents. The Solicitation documents (excluding the drawings and specifications) will be available upon written request, on or about the week of April 18, 2005, from the Smithsonian Institution, Office of Contracting, P.O. Box 37012, 750 9th Street, NW, Suite 6200, Washington, DC 20013-7012, Attn: Lee Carson. Requests for solicitation documents should be written on company letterhead and have complete address, telephone and facsimile numbers, and name of company representative (written requests for solicitation documents may be delivered to the above address or by facsimile transmission to 202-275-1263). A pre-proposal meeting may be scheduled at a later date. The solicitation will be available for release to firms on or about the week of April 18, 2005. All firms responding to this solicitation will be required to submit a business and technical proposal for evaluation. Proposals will be evaluated using the following weighted factors, as described in the Solicitation: 1) Firm’s Experience and Past Performance; 2) Plan of Accomplishment and Contract Time; 3) Key Personnel and Subcontractors ; and 5) Schedule of Values and Contract Price. Offers will be privately opened. The Estimated Price Range for this project is between $250,000.00 and $500,000.00 (both options).
