Description
This is a market survey to locate sources for interpreters for the deaf at the following training locations: Chicago, IL; Parsippany, NJ; New Cumberland, MD; Washington DC Metro area, including Ft. Belvoir, VA, Crystal City, VA, Arlington, VA and Reston, VA; Rockville, MD; Richmond, VA; Battlecreek, MI; Dayton, OH; and Ogden, UT. The DLA Training Center (DTC), located in Columbus, OH, has an on-going requirement for interpreting services for deaf intern(s) assigned to the DLA Corporate Intern Program. Qualified or certified interpreters must be comfortable working in a classroom environment, interpreting complex/technical information using American Sign Language (ASL), Sign English (SE), and/or Pidgin Sign Language (PSE). The sign language skills and fluency must be at a level sufficient to provide thorough instantaneous translation and interpretation of regular mainstream class lectures. These skills include all subject Matter areas, and elective worksheets, special projects, study material, etc., audio-visual classroom presentations/activities, i.e., films, videos, tap recordings, phonograph records, etc., presentations and performances, information in assemblies special programs, and activities. Interprets all spoken information, including interruptions, questions and answers, and messages on public address systems. Due to the training environment, two interpreters would be required so that they may take turns and allow one to rest while the other signs. Interpreter usually sits or stands to perform the duties, dependent upon the facilities. The interpreter may sit on high stools for longer periods of time always mindful of visibility. Interested sources may submit fee schedule (including additional fees such as mileage, travel expenses, etc.), lead time and cancellation policies, and training location preferences, by email by April 11, 2005.
