- Description
- FedBizOpps notice Date: 2005-03-28 Description: The Army?s Logistics R&E Directorate (LRED) at Picatinny Arsenal is currently engaged in design and development of a hybrid composite/metal square rim ammunition container for lightweight design and enhanced Insensitive Munitions (IM) performance. This could also be used as an enabling technology for other future packaging efforts. LRED is soliciting interests in the industry to help design and develop a lightweight hybrid container for test and evaluation. The current Army fielded metal ammunition square rim container PA92 will be used as a baseline. The top drawing of PA92 container can be provided upon request. The new hybrid container must have a weight reduction of 25% minimum, a new and enhanced cover with large surface area for venting purpose and an enhanced stacking feature incorporated into the rim and the rings. Other IM features will also be considered. The hybrid joints must be strong and durable. The new lightweight hybrid container must pass the rough handling requirement as stated in the military standard, MIL-STD-1660. The IM features are targeted to provide improvement in the fast cook-off test in accordance with the MIL-STD-2105B. If companies with the above expertise are interested in teaming with the Army in the above efforts, please respond to Frank Chan at (973) 724-4783 or send email to fchan@pica.army.mil. Both foreign and domestic sources are invited to respond. Interested firms should submit literature/brochures not exceeding twenty (20) pages describing their technical capabilities, specifications, and specifically address the requirement listed above in response to the aforementioned criteria. This is a market survey not a pre-solicitation notice. There is no formal solicitation available at this time. If a formal solicitation is generated at a later date, a solicitation notice will be published. No award will be made as a result of this market survey.
