Description
NAICS Code: 541710 THIS IS A PRE-SOLICITATION SYNOPSIS FOR STUDENT LABORATORY SERVICES TO BE HIRED ON A CONTRACT BASIS BY THE US ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY. The solicitation number is U2B669 (RFQ-RT-05-00117). The Human Exposure and Atmospheric Sciences Division (HEASD) of the National Exposure Research Laboratory (NERL), Office of Research and Development (ORD), U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), is seeking an individual, at least 18 years of age who is either a recent graduate (graduated with a degree from a college or university within the past two years) or a student (in good standing enrolled in a graduate degree program at a recognized educational institution) pursuing a degree in statistics, biostatistics, or bioinformatics to provide services under a contractual agreement in support of human exposure modeling. The preferred student will have broad academic training and work experience in each of the mentioned disciplines and possess general scientific research skills. HEASD's Exposure Modeling Research Branch (EMRB) conducts research to develop technical information and quantitative tools to estimate the nature and magnitude of human exposures to environmental contaminants. Modeling tools include physical process/mechanistic and stochastic models. These models provide quantitative relationships between source emissions, concentrations in different environmental media, and human and physical factors that influence exposures of individuals through different pathways and contacts occurring in various microenvironments. For additional information regarding HEASD or EMRB, visit the division home page at http://www.epa.gov/heasd/. The student contractor shall assist the mentor in performing tasks involved with data collection, organization, review and analysis. Tasks include, but are not limited to: (1) conducting literature/internet searches and reviewing the scientific literature, (2) collect, process, and compile data or other information into databases/spreadsheets, (3) conduct statistical analyses on data collected, and (4) other general duties necessary to carry out research such as quality assurance. All necessary instructions and training will be provided by Dr. Shi Liu, who will also serve as the student mentor. This work is to begin approximately mid February 2005 and will last one year. An option exists for an additional year. It is anticipated that the student contractor will work about 20 hours per week with the majority of work being Monday through Friday of each week between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The initial contract will be for 52 weeks and represent an estimate of 1,000 hours of effort. Work will be performed principally in an office setting with a duty location of 109 TW Alexander Drive, RTP, NC 27711. All questions are to be forwarded via email to the Contract Specialist at the following e-mail address: clausen.rebecca@epa.gov.
