Description
Description: Request for Information (RFI), Mail and Parcel Screening Services. General Information: The U. S. Secret Service (USSS) operates a screening facility for incoming materials destined for locations protected by USSS. The facility personnel inspect materials for chemical, biological, radiological and explosive hazards. This facility currently receives an average of 44,100 letters and flats per week. An average of 157 parcels is also received per week. The screening is currently being performed at an off-site location. In 2008, the screening process will be transferred to a building owned by the Department of Homeland Security. The current operation of this facility includes the following responsibilities: *Receiving, Sorting and Opening of Mail and Parcels *Inspection and Testing of incoming material for chemical-biological hazards *Incident Response *Preparation of Incident Reports *Administrative Data Management *Arrange Removal of Non-Hazardous and Hazardous Waste The lab evaluation of incoming material is considered to be the critical aspect of this operation. USSS is interested in organizations with the flexibility to conduct their operations in any facility. The objectives of this RFI are: 1) to improve USSS knowledge of industry capabilities; 2) to improve the overall understanding of what technology options are available for material inspection; and 3) to invite industry to submit information that will allow USSS to assess the partnering opportunities that exist within industry. Data/Information Requested: Private Sector Industry is invited to submit written capability statements. Points of contact for follow-up communications will be noted. The contractor?s documentation shall include summaries of past performance in this, or related fields; relevant work experience of key personnel; and a summation of information the contractor will require to provide a cost proposal. It is not the Services intent to publicly disclose vendor proprietary information obtained during this solicitation. To the full extent that is protected pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act and other laws and regulations, information identified by a respondent as ?Proprietary or Confidential? will be kept confidential. THIS RFI IS NOT A REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL, NOR DOES IT CONSTITUTE A CURRENT OR FUTURE GOVERNMENT REQUIREMENT. IT IS NOT TO BE CONSTRUED AS A COMMITMENT BY THE GOVERNMENT TO ENTER INTO A CONTRACTUAL AGREEMENT. ANY INFORMATION, OR DATA, PROVIDED TO THE GOVERNMENT IS STRICTLY VOLUNTARY AND AT NO COST TO THE GOVERNMENT.
