Description
NAICS Code: 541710 The Gulf Ecology Division (GED) of the National Health and Environmental Research Laboratory (NHEERL), Office of Research and Development (ORD) at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Gulf Breeze, Florida, is seeking a recent graduate with a B.S. or equivalent degree in biology, chemistry, ecology, environmental science, marine biology, zoology or related field to provide services under a contractual agreement to assist in assessing the effects of endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) on aquatic species. The ideal applicant will possess skills in general laboratory practices (including health and safety), environmental studies, and/or aquaculture. The student contractor will assist in collecting, rearing, exposing fish and invertebrate species to endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDC's), assessing their response(s), and documenting aspects of these activities in lab notebooks and electronic formats. Work will be performed under a variety of settings including office, library, laboratory, and field. The work is not particularly hazardous or physically strenuous; field and laboratory health and safety training will be provided. The period of performance will begin approximately May 15, 2005 and end approximately May 14, 2006 with an option for an additional 12 months period of performance through May 14, 2007. The optional period of performance will be exercised at the discretion of the Government. It is anticipated that the contractor will work an average of 40 hours per week. The majority of the work will be Monday through Friday between the hours of 6:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; some week-end and holiday work should be expected.
