- CONTRACT INFORMATION: POC for technical information is Frank Lewandowski at 716-879-4242 and for contract information is Anita Simpkins, 312-846-5372. With this announcement, the Chicago District Corps of Engineers issues a Pre-solicitation Notice fo r its Chicago Project, in Chicago, Illinois. The Contractor will be responsible for providing all the necessary facilities, plants, labor, transportation, materials, and equipment to accomplish the entire project as stated below. The project includes th e construction of steel sheet pile revetment walls approximately 400 feet in length. The revetment section is composed of a steel sheet pile wall incorporating a battered pile support at intervals along the project. The steel sheet pile wall is to be loca ted along the existing Lake Michigan shoreline. Concrete promenade and revetment steps will be constructed adjacent to the steel sheet pile wall. The area between the new wall and existing shoreline will be backfilled and turfed. Two sheet pile and conc rete groin structures extending approximately 190 feet and 630 feet out into Lake Michigan are to be constructed. The groin structures consist of two parallel steel sheet pile walls, tied together by a tierod and wale system, filled with stone fill and ca pped with a concrete slab. A rubblemound breakwater approximately 950 feet long is to be constructed between the ends of the groins. An area of approximately 7 acres between the groins and breakwater shall be filled with sand to create a new beach. Upla nd work includes construction of new concrete walkways, asphalt paths, a parking lot, storm sewer extensions, drainage swales, a bioretention area, and various landscaping and grading work. The Classification Code for this procurement is North American Ind ustry System (NAICS) 237990 Other Heavy and Civil Engineering Construction and it is UNRESTRICTED TO BUSINESS SIZE. The estimated magnitude of this project is More Than $10,000,000. The solicitation (Invitation for Bids) will be downloadable from the INTERNET ONLY at www.lrl.usace.army.mil (click on Construction / Environmental Solicitations, then click on the appropriate Solicitation Number. You will also need to register at this website. This is the only way your company can be placed on the plan ho lders list and receive any amendments. The solicitation will be available on the Internet on or before 20 April 2005. The due date for bids will be on or about 24 May 2005, at 2:00 PM Chicago Local Time. In order for contractors to conduct business with the Department of Defense, the contractor must provide registration information to the Central Contractor Registration (CCR). Contractors can access the CCR for free at http//www.ccr.gov. Request for solicitation packages made by telephone, fax or e-mail will not be honored. BIDDERS ARE CAUTIONED TO READ THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT WITH PRUDENCE AND IN ITS ENTIRETY: Contract Award for the described services is contingent upon approval from HQUSACE. An Amendment will be issued prior to the Bid Opening Date in forming Bidders as to the status of award approval.
