NAICS Code: 541710 ANNOUNCEMENT FOR STUDENT SERVICES CONTRACT The US Environmental Protection Agency's (USEPA) Immunotoxicology and Pulmonary Toxicology Branch of the Experimental Toxicology Division of the National Health and Environmental Effects Research Laboratory (NHEERL), Office Research and Development (ORD) in Research Triangle Park, NC is seeking several individuals who are students/recent graduates. These individuals must be at least 18 years of age, students in good standing, enrolled in a degree program (not necessarily carrying a full course load but pursuing a degree at a recognized educational institution) to provide services under a contractual agreement in support of laboratory research of environmental health effects. The Government anticipates making multiple awards with hours ranging from 1,000/12 month period to 2,000/12 month period. The student/recent graduate contractor will assist in conducting experiments, preparing biologic samples, gathering data, entering data and maintaining databases (in notebooks or electronically) for studies examining relationships between exposures and effects on cellular, molecular, and whole organism responses. The student/recent graduate contractor will also provide support to the branches by performing laboratory inventories, maintaining the organization of laboratory supplies and equipment, preparing solutions and media, and similar tasks required to maintain the laboratory. These are examples of tasks to be performed, but are not all inclusive. Student contractors must have completed at least two years of study at an accredited university or college and have a minimum of 8 hours course work in biology, chemistry, ecology, environmental sciences, marine biology or zoology; including a minimum of 3 laboratory-based courses. The student contractors must have a minimum of 3 months of work or volunteer experience and carry a 3.0 grade-point-average in their major. The student contractors should possess strong organizational skills. Computer expertise in spreadsheet usage, document preparation, and database management is desirable. The student should be familiar with basic laboratory health and safety. This work is expected to begin approximately June 1, 2005 and end approximately May 31, 2006. The Government reserves the right to extend the contract for an additional year beyond May 31, 2006.The principal duty station location is the EPA campus, Research Triangle Park. Work will be performed primarily in a laboratory; however, students may be required to visit project sites. The hourly rate of pay is commensurate with the level of education and experience as follows: ($12.30/hour with two or more years of college).
