Description
This is a Synopsis for commercial item procurement for mangrove trimming and disposal of vegetation from Naval Air Station, Boca Chica Air Field, Key West, Florida. Trim vegetation in the specified locations, to establish lines of sight from the control tower to the airfields runways and taxiways at the Boca Chica Field, Naval Air Station, Key West, FL. Estimated range of acres is 25 - 30. Performance period is 120 days. Mangrove trimming shall be accordance with the 1996 Mangrove Trimming and Preservation Act (Section 403.9321 ? 403.9333, Florida Statutes). Vegetation trimming work will occur in 1-acre increments. An additional acre increment may begin when the work acre is substantially complete (90%or more). Work shall not begin in a third acre until the initial acre increment is complete. This restriction is for each crew. Multiple crews will be required to work in the same general area. Contractor shall conduct their operation so as to cause the least possible interference with normal air operations. All trimming shall be conducted as follows: (1) all trees will be trimmed with hand held equipment (i.e., chain saws), (2) no heavy equipment will be used, except for trucks to haul the cut material to an appropriate upland disposal site. All trucks will be kept in uplands, paved surfaces, or existing scarified roads, and (3) no disturbance to wetland soils is authorized, except for inadvertent disturbance from the removal activities (foot traffic). Removal of vegetation, burning is permitted (optional) on the southern most round paved area south-southeast of the tower. The contractor is responsible for obtaining all required state and federal burn permits. The pavement shall be protected. Burning byproduct shall be removed from Government property and disposed of in compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Within the specified project limits, remove and dispose of all trimmed vegetation. Minimize damage to remaining vegetation.
