Description
The National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Cancer Institute (NCI), Division of Cancer Treatment and Diagnosis (DCTD), Cancer Diagnosis Program (CDP) intends to procure on a sole-source basis with CALGB Biostatistics Center, Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center, Box 2717, Durham, NC 27710 for the continued collection and curration of data in a study of molecular profiles in stage I lung adenocarcinomas. The Cancer Diagnosis Program (CDP) is in the process of a confirmation study of promising molecular profiles in stage I lung adenocarcinomas. The study is supported by the Director?s Challenge program which developed molecular profiles that identify a subset of stage I lung adenocarcinoma patients who are risk of a poor disease outcome. CDP staff initiated a large multi-institutional study to confirm the potential clinical utility of these molecular profiles. Microarray analysis of 600 new Stage I lung adenocarcinomas was carried out at four academic analytical sites, the analyses were carried out under a standard protocol and the microarray data has been submitted to NCI for analysis. The clinical data for the 600 samples will be submitted to CALGB Biostatistics Center who will collect the clinical data from the four participating sites, curate the data and have it QCed. It is mandatory that all required data is submitted and accurately represented, therefore the CALGB will ensure all required data elements are submitted and follow-up with the investigators submitting the data if additional data is needed. This will ensure that the specimens analyzed will be annotated with high quality, reliable clinical data. Once the curation is completed, the data will be released to the NCI caArray website where it will be combined with the microarray data for analysis. The CALGB biostatistical center was involved in the planning and the initial lung study and a subset of the samples were supplied by CALGB. The CALGB Biostatistical Center already has a portion of the clinical data associated with specimens used in the study since that data was collected on clinical trials carried out by CALGB. They are familiar with the details of the lung study which will ensure the timely and effective assemble of the critical clinical data associated with the lung specimens. Continuity of this on-going study is crucial to the clinical trials and CALGB Biostatistics Center, is the only known source. This is not a solicitation for competitive quotations. However, if any interested party believes it can meet the entire above requirement, they may submit a statement of capabilities. All information furnished shall be in writing and must contain sufficient detail to allow the NCI researcher to determine if it can meet the requirements of this synopsis. This acquisition will be processed under FAR Part 12 ? Acquisition for Commercial Items and will be made pursuant to the authority in FAR 13.5 to use simplified procedures for commercial acquisitions. An original and one copy of the capability statements must be received in the Contracting Office by 1PM EDT (local Washington, D.C. time) on May 17, 2005. Faxed and emailed capability statements are NOT authorized. All questions must be in writing and may be emailed to Debbie Moore at dm170b@nih.gov or faxed (301) 402-4513. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed contract based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government.
