Description

The Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory (SAO) intends to award on a sole source basis, a purchase order to J.E. Carlstrom Company of Chicago, Illinois for the following item: Four (4) each Gunn Oscillators, mechanically tuned WR-10, frequency range: 82-105 Ghz; power output: 40 mW minimum and output flange: WR-10. The Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory (SAO) requires the use of these Gunn Oscillators for its Submillimeter Array, (SMA) local oscillator system. These oscillators are the heart of the local oscillator system for the SMA receivers. We currently use three (3) WR-10 oscillators from J.E. Carlstrom and this purchase is intended to populate three (3) oscillator units for the 400 GHz receiver. These exact oscillators have been delivered and tested in the SMA lab and meet all required specifications. They are packaged into the SMA local Oscillator sub-system. Four (4) more are needed to complete the set of local oscillator units for the receivers and it is important that these oscillators come from the same source, so as to insure they are both physically compatible and interchangeable. A determination by SAO not to complete this proposed purchase order based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of SAO. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement. Delivery is sixty (60) days ARO. This acquisition is being conducted under the guidelines as set forth in the Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP). No written solicitation will be issued for this requirement. Anticipated award date is May 11, 2005
