Description
The Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) proposes to procure approximately 2,450 Personal Computer Memory Card Internation Association, (PCMCIA), cards for use with the Tactical Aircraft Moving Map, (TAMMAC), system. The PCMCIA Card Lots consist of 3 types of cards, Map, Mission and Maintenance, and will be installed into multiple naval aviation platforms (F/A-18, AV-8B, H-1, P-3, EA-6B, C-2). The cards shall comply with the approved TAMMAC Advanced Memory Unit (AMU), Performance Specification, Flight-Worthy PCMCIA Card Performance Specification, TUFF II Controller (ICD), AMU Interface Control Sheets and Digital Data Set (DDS) Performance Specification and DDS ICD. The production support element of this procurement will include, but is not limited to, engineering investigations, engineering change proposals, integration and testing, spare and repair parts, engineering technical support, obsolescence analysis and redesign, and integrated logistics support. The contract will be awarded on a sole source negotiated basis to Smiths Industries (SI), Information Management Systems of Grand Rapids, MI 49512-1991 and will consist of a base award with option units. These options will include approximately 5,850 PCMCIA cards planned for the procurement over the remaining 3 years. The contract is anticipated to be awarded by August 2005. SI is the sole designer, developer and supplier of the AMU and is the only company with the necessary technical data to satisfy the government?s requirements for PCMCIA cards that are fully compatible with TAMMAC AMU production installations into F/A-18E/F/G, AV-8B and UH-1Z/AH-1Y aircraft. Delivery is required to be FOB destination to the aircraft manufacturer and will be required within 6 months of contract award or option exercise. The production of the supplies listed requires a substantial investment or an extended period of preparation for manufacture.
