Description
The Aquatic Monitoring of Aquatic Life in Remote Streams and Rivers Project is for the San Dimas Technology and Development Center located in Los Angeles County, California. The contractor shall monitor the ubiquity and habits of aquatic life throughout National Forest land and play a critical role in protecting the health of this natural resource. Threatened and endangered species require frequent and accurate surveys at a variety of locations and times to protect and enhance the viability of tenuous populations. Developments such as culverts and bridges require monitoring both before and after installation to detect adverse habitat impacts. Budgetary constraints require frugality in both development and monitoring projects. Current methods of aquatic life monitoring require large manpower investments, equipment expenditures, or both, yet offer only modest data quality. The Forest Service seeks information concerning new technology that will improve the accuracy of aquatic surveys at reduced labor and equipment cost. The information the Forest Service seeks regards equipment that could be used to directly detect, measure the size of, and/or differentiate the species of fish and/or other aquatic species, in their natural habitats, without manual input. There are already several commercially available products that employ various methods for this; however, all have certain critical drawbacks. See the following section for a discussion of these methods and their relevant drawbacks. NAICS code: 541690 Size Standard $ 6.0 million The Request for Information is due by noon June 13, 2005.
