Description
Analyze the effects of mixtures on anticholinesterase pesticides on the behavior and neurobiology of juvenile coho salmon. Project Summary In vivo exposure to single anti-cholinesterase pesticides, such as organophosphates and carbamates, is known to depress brain acetylcholinesterase activity as well as swimming and feeding behaviors in fish. The goal of this project is to determine the effects of mixtures of anti-cholinesterase pesticides on the behavior and neurobiology of juvenile coho salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch). The pesticides to be used in this study (carbaryl, carbofuran, diazinon, malathion, and chlorpyrifos) are commonly used in agricultural and residential areas, and have been routinely detected in surface waters throughout the state and country. As identified by NOAA staff, one key data gap in ecological risk assessments is the effect of pesticide mixtures on salmonids. Therefore, this project may provide essential data to regional staff conducting regional and national scale risk assessments regarding pesticides and listed salmonids. This is a simplified acquisition with an estimated value of less than $100,000 ****The Western Administrative Support Center Acquisition Management Division, requires that all contractors doing business with this Acquisition Office be registered with the Central Contractor Registry (CCR) as of October 1, 2003.
