Description
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Surveillance Branch, currently has an immediate requirement for 88 each Megabucket Assembly Units (MAU) for a required modification to replace the existing Airport Surface Detection Equipment (ASDE-3) Transmitter/Receivers (T/R's) Minibucket, Microbucket, Maxibucket, and Power Supply to address obsolescence and supportability issues for all ASDE-3 radar systems. An MAU is required to replace the functionality in the minibucket, microbucket, and certain fuctionality in the maxibucket and the system power supply. The MAU must be a system uniquely designed to interface to the existing ASDE-3 T/R unit, and must also be able to interface to the ASDE-3 Radar Video Processor, Remote Monitoring Subsystem Interface (RMSi) computer, an RS232 device server and an ASDE-3X Radar Data Processor. The standard for this replacement is high and the FAA must ensure confidence in the selected vendor's ability to meet the design's requirements.! Tracewell Systems is currently the only known source for the MAU because they have a COTS MAU assembly that can meet the FAA's requirements. Their system meets the FAA's electrical and mechanical specifications within the existing space allowed by the removal of the ASDE-3 equipment. The FAA will not have to redesign the ASDE-3 T/R to accept Tracewell System's MAU and will be able to deploy this modification to the field to avoid operational shutdown due to supportability issues. To receive consideration as a potential source, any other concern must provide in writing a description of their MAU and demonstrate how it will function with the existing ASDE-3 radar systems. Vendors must respond in writing to the Contracting Officer identified in this market survey. Mark responses to the survey with market survey number #38-01837, to arrive by June 8, 2005. The FAA will not pay for any information received or costs incurred in preparing responses to this market survey. Any proprietary information should be so marked. This announcement shall not be construed as a request for proposal or as an obligation on the part of the FAA to acquire this equipment. Responders to this announcement may be asked to provide additional details/information based on this initial submittal. The final determination by the FAA not to open thie requirement to competition, based on any information provided, is solely within the discretion of the FAA.
