- Description
- The US Army Aviation and Missile Research Development and Engineering Center anticipates a need for a corrosion-identifying paint/coating system to provide early detection of corrosion on metallic substrates and report it through color change. Corro sion costs the U.S economy $300 billion dollars annually according to published reports. Early identification of corrosion and early repair before further damage occurs could result in a savings of $100 billion dollars annually. Chemical changes take plac e in metallic substrates such as aluminum alloys, steels, magnesium, titanium, etc (including fasteners). The technology of interest should detect when corrosion starts and produce a noticeable color change. The intention of this coating is not to eliminat e corrosion, but to detect its development at the earliest stages. As the age of aircraft increases, the corrosion potential also increases. Early detection is important to maintaining a safe and effective airborne capability. Organizations, suppliers an d academic institutions interested in developing this technology using existing facilities, or that have had previous research efforts and demonstrations of like technologies should respond. Responses should be as detailed as possible. This is a market sur vey requesting information only. No solicitation will be issued against this notice. Interested sources should provide supporting documentation NLT 01July2005 to: AMSRD-AMR-SE-MT (Mr. Scott Hofacker, PE) Bldg. 5400, Room S240, Redstone Arsenal, AL 35898. F ax: 256-842-7656 Email: scott.hofacker@us.army.mil (subject: Corrosion-identifying Paint) AND AMSAM-AC-RF-RC (Mr. Kenneth Bruton) Bldg 5400, Room B145 Redstone Arsenal, AL 35898. Fax: 256-842-6052 Email: ken.bruton@us.army.mil (Subject: Corrosion-identifyi ng Paint) Again, in accordance with FAR Clause 52.215-3, the Government does not intend to award a contract on the basis of this solicitation or to otherwise pay for the information solicited. Once the information requested is received and evaluated, the v endor may be contacted to provide a detailed proposal.
