- Description
- The U.S. Geological Survey, Cook, WA intends to make a sole source award to the University of Waterloo, Dr. Mathilakath M. Vijayan, 200 University Ave West, University of Waterloo, Waterloo, Ontario, N2L 3G1, Canada for 225 each, Microarray slides. These microarray slides are to be used to study the impacts of the Federal Columbia River Hydropower (FCRHS) on the physiology and gene expression of juvenile Chinook salmon. The proposed contractor offers unique qualifications in the following areas, which are considered essential to the requirement: fully developed and characterized cDNA microarray that contains 150 genes the expression of which we need to monitor as part of our study; the contractor has made several key advances in our understanding of gene expression in fish during stress; this cDNA microarry is unique in that it is made up of 150 trout genes that were cloned and sequenced from rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) tissues [PCR-amplified cDNA fragments (450-550 bp) of trout genes (sequences available in GenBank)] that are well characterized and, therefore, functionally relevant; this cDNA microarray also hybridizes nicely with other salmonids and, therefore, has a wide cross-species applicability; data are available from the contractor showing that the trout chip hybridizes well with Chinook salmon, coho salmon, Atlantic salmon and Arctic charr; these gene sequences have been grouped according to how their products relate to various physiological systems, including stress physiology; (2) metabolism; (3) exposure to contaminants; (4) reproduction; (5) immune function and disease resistance; (6) osmoregulation or smoltification; (7) growth and development; and (8) respiration. Government's required delivery date: 07/31/2005. This notice is for informational purposes only. This is not a request for competitive quotes. Interested vendors may identify their interest and capability to respond within 15 days of this announcement.
