Description
POC: Tangee Brookie, U. S. Geological Survey, P. O. Box 25046, MS-204A, Denver, CO 80225, e-mail: tbrookie@usgs.gov. The U. S. Geological Survey, Iowa Water Science Center has a need for a custom-built mobile water-quality laboratory built upon a Dodge Sprinter 3500 158" wheelbase cab and chassis. (Contractor is to provide above-referenced Dodge Sprinter 3500.) The minimum requirements for the mobile laboratory are based upon the site acessibility restrictions in the field and access height restrictions in the underground entrance to the Center water-quality laboratory facility in Iowa City, and working accessibility restrictions within the laboratory section of the vehicle. Those minimum requirements are a maximum vehicle length of 264 inches, maximum vehicle height of 108 inches (clearance), maximum vehicle width of 96 inches, a minimum payload capacity of 4600 pounds, and a minimum of 78" head clearance within the laboratory section of the vehicle. The Dodge Sprinter is currently the only available vehicle that has a low enough chassis profile and large enough payload capacity to meet the exterior and interior accessibility requirements. Based on information available at this time, and in accordance with with 41 U.S.C. 253(1), implemented by FAR 6.302-1, the Government considers the services specified as a sole source from Faber Speciality Vehicles, 7052 Americana Parkway, Columbus, OH 43068, and proposes to negotiate a contract with that firm on that basis. However, should additional sources be identified, they will be considered. Firms who feel that they can furnish the required custom-built mobile water-quality laboratory built upon a Dodge Sprinter 3500 158" wheelbase cab and chassis are invited to submit in writing an affirmative response to this announcement. An affirmative response would include literature, brochures, and such other materials which correspond to the required items stated herein. This information will be evaluated and used to determine if competitive opportunities exist. Since no solicitation document exists, requests for such documents without accompanying information will be considered non-responsive to this request without further consideration. This notice may represent the Government's only official notice of this procurement.
