Description

Description: The National Park Service intends to issue a concession prospectus on June 13 for the continuation of overnight accommodations, food service facilities and vending machine services at Buffalo National River. This business opportunity is inherently seasonal in nature, a few cabins are open year around, all are open from approximately Easter to Thanksgiving, merchandise sales are limited, and the restaurant is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day. All services occur in the Buffalo Point Historic District of the park. There are 8 modern cabins, 6 rustic cabins, a lodge with 4 units, 8 soft drink vending machines, and a full-service restaurant that seats 40. Buffalo Point Historic District is located within Buffalo National River near the town of Yellville, Arkansas. Facilities are located at the end of the main road (State Highway 268). Buffalo River is one of our nation's few remaining free-flowing streams. Buffalo National River is located in the Ozark Highlands, a mountainous area which spans Arkansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma. The river runs for 135.75 miles through a spectacular natural and scenic panorama. Additional information about Buffalo National River can be found at www.nps.gov/buff. The 2004 annual visitation to the park was approximately 1,191,018 and visitation to the Lower District (where the concession opportunity is located) was 374,424. The new concession contract will be for 10 years. The Director has determined that a preferred Offeror for this Draft Contract exists pursuant to the terms of 36 CFR Part 51. Any offer must be received in the Concession Office at Buffalo National River, 402 N. Walnut, Suite 136, Harrison, Arkansas 72601, no later than 4:00 p.m. on the response date shown above, in order to be evaluated and considered for an award of a concession contract to provide visitor services in Buffalo National River. Prospectus copies can be obtained at the above address in person or via the US Postal Service. The prospectus will contain information on the business opportunity, the new concession contract, the proposal package and terms and conditions under which the National Park Service will award the new concession contract.
