Description: The USDA Forest Service is advertising for the restoration of the Round Island Lighthouse located on Round Island approximately 1/2 mile off the south shore of Mackinac Island, Michigan. Commercial ferry can be taken to Mackinac Island from either Mackinac City or St. Ignace, Michigan; small boat service to Round Island can be obtained on Mackinac Island. Restoration work will include power washing, scraping, priming and painting the historic Round Island Light Station, with minor repointing of mortar joints; please note the existing paint contains lead so the awarded contractor must follow all regulatory requirements for lead base paint removal. The project will also entail pulling existing rip-rap away from the foundation, removing first course of brick from the foundation (3 layer wide brick wall) and replacing entire first layer of brick, as well as resetting the existing rip-rap. This project is being advertised as a Request for Proposal (technical evaluation criteria resulting in a best value award); the Schedule of Items will be structured with optional bid items to be awarded dependent upon funding availability. The estimated price range of all items is expected to exceed $100,000. The contract time will be 90 days with a desired start work date of August 1, 2005. ORCA certification is required.
