- Description
- The US Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments command, Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center (TACOM-ARDEC), Picatinny, New Jersey is conducting a market survey to identify potential sources capable of manufacturing, inspecting, and delivering both 60mm & 81mm mortar shell bodies. The contract will be firm-fixed price for the basic contract plus four priced evaluated options. An anticipated quantity for the base year is 247,000units with option years each totaling approximately 185,000/yr for all 60mm and 81mm mortar shell bodies. A brief description of the 60mm and the 81mm mortar bodies is as follow: A steel thin wall pressure vessel with the fron end open and the rear end closed. The front end has a female thread that will be assembled with a fuze. The rear end has a male thread that will be assembled with a mortar fin. The largest diameter is the bourrelet area that is just forward of the middle of the body. The approximate bourrelet diameter for the 60mm is 2.352 inches and for the 81mm is 3.172 inches. The approximately length and weight are 6.86 inches and 2.11 lbs. (60mm), and 9.51 inches and 5.89 lbs. (81mm). Capability must include experience in fabrication, inspection, test and necessary equipment, facilities, tooling and material (including packaging and palletization material) and a quality system. Potential candidates must have manufacturing experience in forging (Hot and Cold Process), heat treatment, machining, ultrasonic inspection (UT), hydrostatic testing, and painting of 1340, HF-1 (high fragmentation) steel and alternate steel material for production of both 60mm and 81mm mortar bodies. The UT equipment must be able to perform inspection for uniformity (freedom from physical defects) in the metal, and ideally would also be capable of inspecting the wall thickness over the majority of the mortar body. Both 60mm and 81mm mortar bodies consist of three types (HE (high explosive) bodies, Smoke, and Training). Potential candidates must have the capability of high volume production (at least 20k to 30k units per month for any combination of items). Product drawings (60mm: M720, M720A1, M722A1, and M769, 81mm: M821A2, and M879A1) are available from the Contracting Officer. Interested firms with capability of providing 60mm and 81mm mortar shell bodies should provide, at no cost to the government, a summary of their firm???s past experience, capabilities, size of business (small or large business), storage facilities, description of facilities and personnel to meet these requirements, equipment, tooling, processes, quality control of material and process, packaging ,palletization and any other areas of expertise that may enable them to undertake efforts of similar complexity and magnitude within fifteen days of this publication by electronic mail to stanley.chin@us.army.mil All information submitted will be held in a confidential status.
