- Description
- The Idaho National Laboratory (INL) has conceived of a device to convert thermal energy (heat) directly to electricity. This device may operate using a working fluid or may be based on mechanical motion. It uses heat transfer to create cyclic motion and the same motion is then the driver of electromotive potential. Consequently, it approaches solid state in simplicity and reliability. The heat may come from such sources as chemical reactions, the sun, fission, fuel, or radioactive decay. This device could power everything from personal computers to satellites. It is not expected to power commercial power grids. The INL is soliciting interest from qualified industrial firms interested in participating in projects and commercializing this technology. It is anticipated that commercialization will be carried out by licensing this technology to a company. Additional development and support may be possible through Cooperative Research and Development Agreement with some or all of the funding support being provided by the participant(s). The INL invites interested parties to contact us regarding the details of licensing and implementing this technology into an operation. Interested parties should respond on or before July 29, 2005. For questions regarding the technology, licensing, and working with the INL, please contact Ida Shum: Ida Shum Telephone: 208-526-0744 E-Mail: ida.shum@inl.gov
