Description
NASA/MSFC has a requirement for a Class IV, carbon dioxide (CO2) laser must produce 10 W to 250 W of power at a wavelength of 10.6 ?m with an inherent power stability of 8%. The beam must be no greater than 6.8 mm in diameter with a beam divergence no greater than 2.1 milli-radians. The system must provide a beam which has an M2 value of <1.3 and an ellipticity of <1.2. The beam must have a linear polarization state. Internal to the laser head, a visible aiming laser co-aligned with the CO2 beam must be provided. The system must be operable with cooling water providing 50-95oF at a flow rate of 1.5 gallons per minute, at 30-75 p.s.i., capable of extracting 5000 watts heat load. The laser must operate from 208-230 VAC, three phase, 60 Hz. power at not more than 17 Amps. A remotely operated integrated shutter assembly is required. An interface for a computer to remotely control operations must be provided. The laser system must be warranted for at least a 15-month, unlimited hour warranty with all components and assemblies guaranteed to be free of defects in workmanship and materials for the warranty period. Manuals must be provided NASA/MSFC intends to purchase the items from Coherent Laser Group due to systems requirements and compatibility with existing equipment. The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12.
