Description

The Regional Food for Peace Officer for East and Southern Africa (RFPO) will guide and monitor in-country use of U.S. agricultural commodities provided under Title II of P.L. 480 to combat hunger and malnutrition in emergency, transition and developmental situations in order to save lives. The PSC will serve as a member of a ten person regional team within REDSO/ECSA’s Food for Peace Office and will be based in Nairobi, Kenya. The incumbent will ensure effective daily monitoring, reporting, and management of all Title II food aid resources allocated by USAID’s Bureau for Democracy, Conflict and Humanitarian Assistance, Office of Food for Peace (DCHA/FFP). He/She will identify and analyze causes of food insecurity in the region; will address them by participating in developing strategies and designing integrated Title II programs and projects, will monitor and evaluate them; and will develop a range of alternatives for the solution of policy, programmatic and operational problems as they arise. He/she will have prime oversight responsibility for the whole range of food aid programs in a sub-region totaling no less than $ 100 million. He/she will forge a wide range of high-level contacts within the donor, PVO, business, local and international communities; and will ensure coordination with USAID missions and/or US Embassies at the program level. The PSC to be hired for this position will be located in Nairobi,Kenya. Travel will be required for approximately 30% of the time.
