Description

The U.S. Department of Commerce, National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST), proposes to negotiate on a sole source basis contract under the authority of 41 U.S.C. 253(c)(1) with NP Photonics for a high power fiber laser + amplifier system. NIST is building an apparatus capable of measuring the frequency of two very narrow optical transitions at 578.42 nm. The NP Photonics Model No. FLSA-1000-3-1030.0286 meets the required specifications for NIST?s research. The ytterbium-doped fiber lasers deliver narrow linewidth radiation to amplifier systems which retain linewidth characteristics (<3 kHz) and produce 1 Watt at 1030.0286 plus or minus 0.02 nm. This combination of custom wavelength, narrow linewidth and high power makes the NP Photonics Model uniquely suitable to meet the governments need. It is the government?s belief that there is no other company capable of providing an instrument to meet the required specifications. This procurement is being conducted per FAR Part 13.1, Simplified Acquisition Procedures (under $100K). This notice is for information purposes only. No competitive solicitation is planned. Information submitted in response to this notice will be used solely to determine whether or not use of competitive procedures to fulfill this requirement would be in the Government's best interest and must address qualifications pertinent to this requirement. Anticipated award date is July 19, 2005. NAICS: 334513.
