Description
The purpose of this solicitation is to acquire the services of a professional Soil Scientist to finish building a NASIS type database for the Fishlake National Forest; this task will involve preparing Form 5 / Soil Interpretation Records from soil profile description forms and subsequently transferring all of this technical information over into the NRCS / NASIS database. This action will allow the FS to eventually migrate these records back into our own NRIS database. Specifically, a total of 159 soil descriptions will be selected by Fishlake National Forest / Soil Scientist - Michael D. Smith for this inquiry; all of the information listed for 1) landscape, 2) climate, 3) estimated soil properties, 4) existing vegetative communities and 5) geology will be re-entered into the NASIS ( 5.3 ) database. In addition, the current taxonomic classification of each soil type, according to the USDA - Second Edition of Soil Taxonomy (1999), will be placed into the NASIS database. This action will allow the NRCS computer programs to generate a listing of both suitability and limitation ratings about the potential of each soil type for recreational developments, building developments, sanitary facilities, construction materials and the management of water for urban settings, farming operations and domestic livestock. Contractor shall be experienced in analyzing, interpreting and recording soil properties and site characteristics on Form 5 / Soil Interpretation Records followed by using data entry techniques in order to input both detailed and technical information about Forest Service / Soil Survey Projects into the current NRCS / NASIS ( 5.3 ) Database. All remaining field documentation for the Richfield and Loa Ranger Districts will be transferred into the NASIS Database according to the current National Cooperative Soil Survey (NCSS ) standards and guidelines. All of this land resource information needs to be included within NASIS in order for the Fishlake National Forest to have a complete database for its Fremont-Monroe-Salina / Soil Survey Area. The contractor shall furnish all the labor, transportation and incidental items required to complete this project. NOTE: THIS NOTICE WAS NOT POSTED TO WWW.FEDBIZOPPS.GOV ON THE DATE INDICATED IN THE NOTICE ITSELF (01-JUL-2005); HOWEVER, IT DID APPEAR IN THE FEDBIZOPPS FTP FEED ON THIS DATE.
